Y’know, those little pictures on your computer…

 


The ancient family of Groan has lived for centuries in the vast crumbling castle of Gormenghast. The dynasty is threatened by the charismatic Steerpike who escapes his destiny as a kitchen boy. Based on the incredible BBC series, these icons are 32-bit (jillions of colors), and contain 48×48 resources so that folks with poor vision will have a fighting chance.

I’m a big fan of the band XTC. So much so, in fact, that I created some computer icons from band related images to decorate my desktop. Over time, I built enough (26 so far) that it seemed worthwhile to compile and share them. Many of these icons are 32-bit (zillions of colors) but most render just fine on older 16-bit (thousands of colors) desktop displays.

Some folks probably think that the whole point of a computer icon is to give some indication of what the file or folder contents might be. To those people, I say, "Don’t download this icon set." Abstract Icons, Volume One, contains 30 icons for non-linear thinkers and non-thinking linears.
