Really Good Movies

These movies kick ass. I hope I can turn you onto your new favorite film. If you’ve already seen all these, then gimme a call cuz we’ll surely be bestest buddies. Unless you hated them all, in which case go to hell, ya bastard!

City of Lost Children

city of lost children

The evil scientist Krank, who cannot dream, has his army of one-eyed henchmen kidnap young children so Krank can steal their dreams. A circus strongman called One searches for his little brother who was kidnaped by Krank’s men, aided by young orphan Miette.

I love everything about this dark, creepy, surreal, but sweet & beautiful film. And it stars one of my favorite actors, Ron Perlman. If you’re one of those folks who hates subtitles, get over it and watch this movie.

Cronos

cronos

An alchemist fleeing the Inquisition heads to Mexico in the 16th Century. Flash forward to the modern day when the alchemist, who’s kept his longevity secret over the centuries, is killed in an earthquake. His estate is auctioned off, and the story begins when a gentle antiques dealer buys a statue of an angel and discovers a mysterious device inside…

How many suspense (with a strong horror element) films would feature a grandpa as the hero? Damned few. This is a very inventive low-budget film from Mexico. Once again, Ron Perlman is featured, this time as a bad guy. Dubbing sucks, get used to subtitles. It’s worth it to hear the original actor’s voices, even if you don’t speak the language.

Go get it!
